The Palm Beach Blitz 2018 Report

The dust has settled and I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of those that attended the Palm Beach Blitz comp that we hosted on the weekend.

The race format returned for the second year and was yet again a ton of fun. The fishing this season has been markedly better than last year, and the surf has not been too much to deal with so hopes were high.

30 of the 36 Entrants kicked off the AKS 2018 comp season at 5 am on Saturday morning with hopes of being the first back on the beach with a fish in the hatch. With only the following species eligible for scoring it makes for an exciting comp.

• Spanish Mackerel
• Spotted Mackerel
• Cobia
• Longtail Tuna
• Yellowfin Tuna
• Mahi Mahi
• GT
• Wahoo
• Marlin

 After only 30 minutes on the water Edmond NG was back on dry land with a Spanish Mackerel in the hatch. This was Edmond's first ever Spanish and whilst he has attended a few of our comps in the past, this is certainly his best scoring fish so far!

At 6 am Ant Wright was back on the beach with a Spotty in the hatch – taking second place. We were pleased to see Ant score this fish in the comp, given that he has caught and released numerous fish in our comps before but never scored them. It was well deserved.

Next on the beach was Rokkit Rod with a Spotty. As we have come to discover with Rodney, the placing is not as important to him as it is getting some good quality content for his kayak fishing channel so no doubt we will hear his version soon enough.

The next arrival on the Beach was Justin Mitchell with a couple of spotties in the hatch – Justin had put in a long paddle out to Gravel patch in search of these fish so was surprised that he was the fourth person back in with a fish.

Dean Giddings managed to secure his first kayak caught Pelagic by returning to the beach fifth with a Cobia. Dean is another of the blokes who has worked hard to get into fish and has been a regular at our comps so we were very pleased to see him get one.

Rylin Richardson was the last of the paddlers to score a fish – with a very nice Spanish Mackerel. Unfortunately for Rylin, Edmond's Spanish pipped his by 4 cm so not only did Edmond win the race but also manage to secure the biggest fish for the comp.

 

Of course a large component of our competitions is the social aspect so fishing aside it was really great to see new and old faces at the comp. We topped off the morning with a BBQ and Beers on the beach followed by a quick prize giving.

The next leg of the Kayak Fishing Schedule takes place in Noosa and is definitely worth attending. The Noosa comp is not a race so we often see anglers from all over the East coast attending.

Following the Noosa Comp is our flagship comp – The Adder Rock Challenge.
