Adder Rock Kayak Fishing Comp

The 2016 Stealth Adder Rock Challenge was a great success - Be sure to have a read.

In total we had 65 Entrants this year – 20 of which were new to the Adder Rock experience.

15 of the entrants had attended all 4 of the Adder Rock events.

25 of the competitors managed to enter a fish in the competition. 12 Different Species were recorded and a total of 50 fish caught.

The species caught include: Spanish Mackerel, Black Marlin, Spangled Emperor, Barracuda, Snapper, Goat Fish, Leatherjacket, Moari Cod, Fingermark, Coronation Trout, Mack Tuna and Moses Perch.

The competition was scored as follows:

  • 1 – 49 cm = 0.5 Pts per cm
  • 50cm – 99 cm = 1 pts per cm
  • 100 cm – 149 cm = 1.5 pts per cm
  • 150cm + = 2 pts per cm

The individual section of the competition was won by Dave McGregor – who managed to amass an amazing score of 503.5 points with an enormous Spanish Mackerel of 155 cm, large Snapper as well as a couple of smaller models and some Spangled Emperor.

Justin Mitchell placed second with 300 points for his Black Marlin.

Robert Thomson, the winner of the 2015 Adder Rock comp placed third. He also managed to secure the title for most species caught.

The highlight for many however is the team competition. Competitors are divided into 5 teams – The Sunshine Coast Sand Whiting, The Gold Coast Guppies, The Brisbane Bream, The Brisbane Bonito and the Mexicans Mullets (from across the border).

This year the Brisbane Bonito manage to take home top honours – thus stopping the Sunshine Coast Sand Whiting from winning 3 years in a row.
